The Craig and Susan Thomas Foundation has been thriving since its inception in 2008. The Foundation was established with a 10-year plan to use every available resource to help students who are at risk. To achieve this goal, we established three programs: scholarships with mentoring so students could achieve post-secondary education; grants to groups that share our mission; and an annual leadership award to recognize Wyomingites who champion our youth.
Throughout the years, we have helped dozens and dozens of students who would not otherwise have been able to attend college and technical schools. While we initially believed we had the resources to offer two scholarships a semester, we underestimated the generosity of friends throughout Wyoming and the entire country who have supported this cause. By diligently raising money, balancing our budget year after year and targeting efforts directly to students, rather than maintaining a large office and staff, we have been able to award at least 10 scholarships per semester for the past nine years. In the past year, we added an additional 15 scholarships per semester to energy workers who have lost their job and want to finish their education or learn a new skill.
Because we want everyone who has been involved with this program to have the tools to plan ahead, we are providing notice to you about the status of our programs:
Recipients of our scholarships for fall 2017 were selected earlier this month. Those students will be able to apply for a final scholarship for spring 2018. No new students will be added to the program. The deadline for the spring 2018 scholarship is November 1st, 2017. Grant applications must be received by June 30, 2018 to be considered.
Ten Leadership Awards have been presented to outstanding Wyomingites who dedicate young people. No additional nominations will be accepted.
While mid-2018 will mark our 10-year goal, we intend to continue our mission until then, ensuring that we offer our services through the very last drop of learning available to these people who need us the most.
Thank you for your outstanding support of the Foundation.
