The Craig and Susan Thomas Foundation is making a real difference. The Foundation was established with a 10-year plan to use every available resource to help students who are at risk. To achieve this goal, we established three programs: scholarships with mentoring so students could achieve post-secondary education; grants to groups that share our mission; and an annual leadership award to recognize Wyomingites who champion our youth.
In the last several years, we expanded the scholarships to include a Retrain to Gain program for laid off energy workers who lost their jobs and want to finish their education or learn a new skill. In addition, the Foundation tackled the problem of homeless students by offering grants to that critical population.
Throughout the years, we have helped dozens and dozens of students who would not otherwise have been able to attend college and technical schools. While we initially believed we had the resources to offer two scholarships a semester, we underestimated the generosity of friends throughout Wyoming and the entire country who have supported this cause.
Through a vigorous fund raising effort, balancing our budget year after year and targeting efforts directly to students, rather than maintaining a large office and staff, we have been able to award an average of 15 scholarships a semester.
Because we want everyone who has been involved with this program to have the tools to plan ahead, we are providing notice to you about the status of our programs:
Currently 22 scholarship students are enrolled in our scholarship program. No new students will be added.
Grant applications must be received by June 30, 2018 to be considered.
Ten leadership awards have been presented to outstanding Wyomingites who dedicate themselves to improving the lives of young people. No additional nominations will be accepted.
While mid-2018 will mark our 10-year goal, we intend to continue our mission until then, ensuring that we offer our services through the very last drop of learning to these people who need us the most.
Thank you for your outstanding support of the Foundation.
