Laramie's Nyquist Named Thomas Foundation Leadership Award Winner

Cheyenne - Tim Nyquist of Laramie has been selected to receive the second annual Leadership Award from the Craig and Susan Thomas Foundation. The Leadership Award recognizes and honors an individual who champions the needs of young people in Wyoming.

Nyquist served as the Construction technology Instructor for Laramie County Community College, Albany County Campus, for seven years.

Susan Thomas, foundation director, said, "I'm proud to give this award to an individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to champion learners who need a leg-up. Tim Nyquist is a champion himself by going the extra mile without realizing how exceptional his work is. Tim is a gift to at-risk learners, he is a gift to Wyoming and to our future. I am honored to present this much deserved award to a person who is worth the watching."

The Craig and Susan Thomas Foundation Leadership award was presented to Nyquist at the Wyoming State Fair on Wednesday. In addition to the honor, the award comes with a $2,500 check to be used as the winner chooses.
"Counselors, mentors and educators deserve recognition for the work they do with our children, especially those who are at-risk. I want them to know that we value their time, efforts and dedication," Susan Thomas said.

Nyquist was nominated by Susan Soderberg, also of Laramie, who said, "Tim has put his heart and soul into developing a program where at risk students, who may not have otherwise attended college, were able to learn, grow and mature under his guidance."

The Craig and Susan Thomas Foundation focuses on Wyoming's at-risk youth population and those who champion young people. This award is the second of three key elements to the Foundation. The others are grants to Wyoming groups and organizations, and scholarships for at-risk students. Earlier this summer, the Foundation awarded thirteen college and trade school awards to students who do not meet Hathaway guidelines. More information on the scholarships and grants can be found at www.thomas-foundation.com.
The foundation is named in part for the late United States Senator Craig Thomas who championed the cause of Wyoming's youth.
