Jeffrey Named Thomas Foundation Leadership Award Winner

Ron Jeffrey is the winner of 2011 Craig and Susan Thomas Foundation Leadership Award. He is the Juvenile Court Judge for the Cheyenne Municipal Court and Director of Juvenile Justice Services with Youth Alternatives.

Cheyenne – Judge Ronn Jeffrey of Cheyenne has been selected to receive the fourth annual Leadership Award from the Craig and Susan Thomas Foundation. The Leadership Award recognizes and honors an adult who champions the needs of young people in Wyoming.

Jeffrey is the Juvenile Court Judge for the Cheyenne Municipal Court and Director of Juvenile Justice Services with Youth Alternatives.

Susan Thomas, foundation director, said, "It is an honor to give this award to a man who nurtures and understands learners who are at-risk, while at the same time teaching them personal responsibility.

The Craig and Susan Thomas Foundation Leadership award was presented to Jeffrey at the Wyoming State Fair last week. In addition to the honor, the award comes with a $2,500 check to be used as the winner chooses.

"Counselors, mentors and educators deserve recognition for the work they do with our children, especially those who are at-risk. I want them to know that we value their time, efforts and dedication," Susan Thomas said.

Jeffrey was nominated by Miriam Abernathy of Cheyenne, who said, "Literally thousands of youth and families have benefitted from Ronn’s life work. Ronn believes that spending time with children, listening to them, caring about their concerns, sharing activities, providing a positive role model, and gently steering them along a path of personal accountability, is a proven and true way of molding them into responsible adults."

The Craig and Susan Thomas Foundation focuses on Wyoming's young learners who are at-risk. This award is the second of two key elements to the Foundation. The other is a statewide scholarship program. Earlier this summer, the Foundation awarded thirteen college and trade school scholarships to students who do not meet Hathaway guidelines. Names of the recipients can be found at www.thomas-foundation.com.
The foundation is named in part for the late United States Senator Craig Thomas who championed the cause of Wyoming's youth.
